“LI – II”

October 16, 2016 by Tom

This frame contains flat steel stock, the edges of which I’ve burned with a torch, and formed and welded, textured round steel stock, as well as some wrought iron fencing elements. HR Giger was an incredible artist who not only created fantastic paintings, but also designed and made many architectural pieces, furniture, jewelry, and public space designs. He was also the designer of the movie “Alien” monster, and many of the movies elements.

Off Broadway

This is another print by one of my favorite artists, Mr. Ciro Marchetti. The rich colors and exquisite detail in this image gave me many options for my frame. The underlying base is mild steel which I cut, bent, welded and ground and burnished. I then bent sheet copper to lay over portions of the steel. These pieces I hand riveted into place with rivets I made from brass rod. I brought the “Tight Rope” out from the image, connecting it to a platform, on the right side, where a small Ballerina figure waits for her partner to complete her act.
I’m very pleased with how this one turned out, but the finished frame has become quite heavy, requiring two people to lift it into place on the wall.

LOTR Poster

For this poster frame I’ve used sections of mild steel and done some extensive torch work on each piece. I’ve burned all the edges, and melted some sections causing the steel to run and drip. I then rough welded all the pieces together, and have left it with it’s natural finish to rust over time.
